7.23.09 London

Today was spent in the historical land of tutelage and scholars; the one and only Cambridge. Sign me up for classes because I would be all for a semester there!

"Utah State University
1 2 1 years
1888-2009"
(not quite as impressive)

We got up early again to hop on a train and head north for about an hour to Cambridge. Upon arriving we snagged some snacks, then walked about 2 miles to a square in the heart of the town.

muffins and milkshakes at the train station

Its such a fun place and feels like a big village; with historical buildings inhabited by modern stores and up and coming designers.

There was a giant open air market selling everything from fruit and handmade jewelry to soccer jerseys. We had awhile to explore, then met back up and were divided into two groups with two tour guides. Luckily, I got Sally's group.

Ah, that lovely old dove Sally. She was a dear little thing.

Sally was one of the best tour guides we have had so far. Well...Sid gives her a run for her money, only because of his Jedi ways. But I think Sally definitely tops all the ones we have had thus far. We started with a tour of Kings College, one of the 30 some odd colleges that make up Cambridge University. (Utah State has...snap, only 7. But again, we aren't comparing) Kings College is one of the biggest, oldest and most famous colleges at Cambridge. Its beautiful and I felt like I was walking about Hogwarts.

Cleats and a ball please, and get me on that grass.

We first went into the Kings College chapel, which was incredible to say the least on the inside...

In all the churches we have been in, this was so unique and impressive and the ceiling is incredible. We walked about it a bit then headed outside to go to another church, then to one of Cambridge's most famous pubs for fish and chips!

Its like a movie here.

That was one big, tasty, deep fried fishy. Me likey.

After lunch we walked about a bit and also explored the H&M in Cambridge, which was bomb. 8 pounds and 2 sweaters later I was very proud. Thank you designer D.I. Again, come to Utah. We hurried back and met up with the group at the Fitzwilliam Museum. It was a cool museum and also bears the name I would give to my butler if I owned one. "Fitzy, is the tar tar chilled yet? The guests are antsy." It would be so fitting.

There was this cool metallic reflecting thing outside.
Took advantage of that opportunity.

After the museum, of course it started raining. Quite hard; which was perfect cause we were on our way to go punting. Punting= a flat bottomed boat similar to a gondola that is 'punted' along with a pole by someone standing on the back. This experience totally made up for us not doing a gondola ride in Venice due to the price.

A lonely punt boat

There is this incredible canal that runs along the back of all the colleges at the University, and its filled with these punting boats. Individual colleges as well as students can have them to row around on. On a saturday when its warm they said the whole canal is filled with boats.

Our tour guide. She's just about to go to college at Oxford in the fall.
If you look closely you'll recognize her as Kaya, from Willow. Not really,
but she fooled me.

weeping willow. bah ha.

This building was used in the 1st Harry Potter.

The girls peaced out and took a nap.

So the punting was an incredible experience and very relaxing. I loved it. After our tour we were on our own, so we navigated our way back to the train station and home to the flat. On our walk to the flat I spotted the steezy car of the day...

Porsche Carrera. Its black and little and I like it.

Cheers!
